VFW Spreads Christmas Cheer to Wounded Warriors |
 |
| VFW and Ladies Auxiliary VFW representatives, including George “Corky” and Judi Berthiaume and Mark Thompson, delivered the giant greeting card on Christmas Eve. |
On Christmas Eve, more than 600 wounded or injured warriors at Madigan Army Medical Center in Tacoma, Wash., received an unforgettable holiday greeting.
A giant Christmas card, carrying over 14,000 signatures collected through a VFW Friends of Freedom Internet campaign, was delivered by VFW volunteers to the Warrior Transition Battalion.
“They thought it was unbelievable! They were astounded that we got so many signatures,” said George “Corky” Berthiaume, Past State Commander, Washington. “These wounded warriors are going through some pretty difficult times. Things like this are a real upturn for them. They need something positive—they need to know people care.”
The gesture of support included a message of gratitude and encouragement:
You’ve bravely and proudly carried the burden of defending this country. And for that, there are no words to express our gratitude. Because of you, this country remains the greatest nation on Earth!
On behalf of each proud citizen, and the VFW, please accept our deepest gratitude for your heroism and valor. We remember all you’ve done for each of us, and we are grateful. We hope this small token will bring cheer into your Christmas by letting you know that we are thinking of you and your comrades.
Best wishes for a speedy recovery. Merry Christmas!
