Milk Jugs and Coffee Cans Cash in for Calls:
Fund Raising Veteran Sets Sights on VFW Operation Uplink

 Clyde Stephens

When Clyde Stephens sets a goal, he achieves it.

William “Clyde” Stephens has been a military member for 42 years, serving in the Army and Air Force. Holding ranks from Cpl., Capt. and Maj.; he concluded his career as Lt. Col. of the Tenn. State Guard.

Now Quartermaster of Post 6362, Jasper, Tenn., his time is dedicated to supporting overseas service members. At one point, he sponsored almost 30 units.

Stephens knows the importance of maintaining communication with home. That’s why his most recent donation was to VFW Operation Uplink.

“I chose to donate to a program that allows deployed heroes to connect with loved ones at home,” explained Stephens.

He placed milk jugs and coffee cans in Jasper banks, restaurants, gas stations and the court house to raise money for the program.

In one year, Stephens—with the help of fellow Post members—raised almost $2,500 for VFW Operation Uplink.

In the meantime, he mails VFW membership brochures overseas to recruit new VFW members. He hopes to inspire fellow veterans and active military to support the VFW.

“I’m doing all I can for the VFW, and will continue until I physically have to stop,” he concluded.
