Support for Military Members Only Gets Better

Ciro Stefano is no stranger to being deployed and far away from family and friends. Originally from Annapolis, Md., he is now serving in Iraq with the 33rd Military Transition Team.

“It means the world to communicate with the ones I love,” said Stefano. “When I served in Desert Storm, phone calls were rare and limited to just five minutes.”

Recently, Stefano began to place a call to his girlfriend Sonja and was thrilled to discover that VFW was covering the cost.

“We shared laughs and acted silly, discussed upcoming leave activities and holiday plans,” he said. “E-mail is great, but nothing compares to the sound of a loved one’s voice.”

Stefano is grateful for military support programs and impressed by how they evolved and improved during his four combat tours.

“Thanks to organizations like the VFW, I have never felt such outstanding support as on this particular deployment.”

Upon his return, he can’t wait to hug and kiss loved ones and play with his dog, Buster. He also looks forward to eating a home cooked meal, wearing civilian clothes, long hot showers and attending church on Sundays.
