Helping Veterans Every Step of the Way

We help veterans of all generations and their families. As an organization of combat veterans, we know the challenges our military face and what needs to be done—now.

Thanks to the generous support of caring Americans, we provide a comprehensive net of assistance for those who answer the call to serve—while they serve, when they come home and year round on Capitol Hill.

WHILE THEY SERVE ...

VFW is here for our military and the families they leave behind. We know that parents worry. Children lose precious time with mom or dad. Spouses struggle to care for their families alone. VFW offers:

Emergency Grants
When military families fall on hard times as a direct result of military service, VFW Unmet Needs grants cover their basic needs. Rent. Groceries. Medicine. The essentials. Our service members take comfort in knowing their family has additional support here at home—support that lightens the blow of unexpected expenses, unemployment or injury. Find out more.

Free Calls Home
Nothing improves morale quite like hearing the voice of a loved one. But calling home is not so easy on the wallet. VFW Operation Uplink provides two designated days each month when deployed service members can call home from their Morale, Wellness & Recreation (MWR) center ... absolutely free. Find out more.

Morale-Boosting Events
VFW Military Assistance Program (MAP) helps fund events that honor and recognize military service. From send offs to welcome home events, MAP provides Posts and Ladies Auxiliaries with grants that help cover expenses. Find out more.

ONCE THEY’RE HOME ...

The fight is far from over when a service member returns home. Many are disabled—physically and mentally—and are entitled to VA benefits.

Expert Assistance Getting VA Benefits
Our nationwide network of VFW service officers helps veterans cut through bureaucratic red tape to get what they have earned. From help filing a claim to making oral arguments before the Board of Veterans Appeals, our service officers fight for veterans every step of the way. Find a service officer near you.

ON CAPITOL HILL

VFW’s voice on “the Hill” cannot be ignored!

We never stop advocating for veterans. Testifying at hearings. Interacting with Congress. Fighting for justice. To date, VFW has played an instrumental role in every piece of major veterans’ legislation in the 20th and 21st centuries.

Whether we’re pushing for fair education with the GI Bill or standing united against threats to veterans’ benefits, we always put our veterans first.
